1.5 Million Children Are Out of School in Haiti — Here's How You Can Help

Haiti is facing one of the worst education crises in its history. As of early 2025, nearly 1.5 million children are out of school or at serious risk of dropping out altogether — that is more than one in four Haitian children.

More than 1,600 schools have closed due to escalating gang violence and displacement. Hundreds of thousands of families have been forced from their homes, and for many children, the classroom they once knew no longer exists.

At EducNation Foundation, we refuse to let this become the new normal.

The Reality on the Ground

For millions of Haitian families, sending a child to school was already a financial sacrifice. Haiti has no free public education system. Families must pay for tuition, uniforms, shoes, books, and school supplies — often on incomes of less than $3 per day.

Now, with nearly 700,000 displaced children across the country, the challenges are compounding. Children who were already behind are falling further back. Schools that remain open are overwhelmed. Teachers are going unpaid.

The result: a generation at risk of losing years of education they will never recover.

What EducNation Foundation Is Doing

Since 2014, EducNation Foundation has been on the ground in Haiti working to remove the barriers that keep children out of school. Our BackToSchool program delivers school supplies — backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and textbooks — directly into the hands of students who need them most.

We have already reached over 1,200 students through our programs. But the need is greater than ever.

Every $50 provides a full year of school supplies for one student in Haiti.
